Who we are
Hailing from the lush, rainy landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, Karly is a mom, a journeyman beekeeper, and a lifelong student of the natural world. With a bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Culinary Arts from Bastyr University, her journey into beekeeping was a serendipitous one—rooted in curiosity and guided by a deepening connection to plants, food, and ecology.
Her professional path began in the fitness world, where a passion for health led her to study nutrition. While pursuing her degree, she enrolled in an organic gardening elective that sparked a love for growing food and ultimately inspired her first backyard garden. That small garden became the seed for a much larger journey.
As she learned more about sustainable gardening, Karly became deeply involved in native plant conservation through work with the Washington Native Plant Society, the University of Washington’s Rare Care Program, and the Washington State Master Gardener Program. This growing expertise eventually led her to establish her own home nursery focused on propagating and preserving native plants.
Her love of native plants—and the ecosystems they support—naturally led her to bees. Drawn to natural beekeeping methods and pollinator conservation, Karly embraced beekeeping as a way to support both her garden and the wider landscape. Today, she owns Northwest Apiary Services, where she shares her knowledge through consultation, education, and hive hosting across Western Washington.
Karly brings a holistic, land-based perspective to beekeeping—always rooted in care, ecology, and the rhythms of nature.
Our mission goes beyond supporting pollinators—we are committed to fostering equity in agriculture and beekeeping. As small business owners rooted in the Pacific Northwest, we recognize that access to sustainable beekeeping and pollination services is often limited by financial, geographic, and educational barriers. Our goal is to bridge these gaps by offering accessible, ethical, and community-focused solutions.
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from healthy pollinator populations, regardless of farm size or financial resources. By prioritizing education and mentorship, we empower farmers and aspiring beekeepers with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed. Our hive hosting program provides a practical, low-barrier entry point for those who want to support bees without managing their own colonies. Additionally, we strive to source materials responsibly, collaborate with diverse agricultural communities, and advocate for fair and sustainable practices in the beekeeping industry.
Our dedication to equity is a reflection of who we are—two beekeepers who came from different backgrounds but found common ground in a shared love for bees and the environment. We know firsthand the power of connection, and we aim to build a network where farmers, beekeepers, and pollinators can thrive together. Through our work, we hope to contribute to a future where sustainable beekeeping is not just a privilege, but an accessible and integral part of resilient local food systems.
